Anchored Down with Love Buddy Walk

Thank you for your interest in the Anchored Down with Love Buddy Walk of DeFuniak Springs! This event has historically been sponsored by the Walton High School Anchor Club.  We are happy to announce that we will be partnering with the Down Syndrome Association of Tallahassee (DSAT) this year to grow our walk and to expand services offered to individuals with Down syndrome and their families in Northwest Florida.  Families from throughout the Northwest Panhandle are invited to join us on October 14th for the 5th Annual Buddy Walk!

Walton High Anchor Club

Anchor is an international organization made up of students that serve because they want to make a difference.  Membership in an Anchor Club allows young people to make a dynamic difference in their world through volunteer service...and have FUN while helping others. Anchors learn valuable skills that prepare them to be good citizens for the rest of their lives. They have opportunities to lead and organize service projects and play active roles in club programs. Anchor members discover the importance of working together---no single member can perform the service that the members accomplish as a team. Often they even work side by side with their sponsoring Pilot Clubs to promote awareness and provide hands on service to people in our community.

The Walton High Chapter was founded over 50 years ago and members currently participate in the following events each year:

  • Down Syndrome Awareness Buddy Walk
  • Hometown Heroes
  • Christmas Tree Angels
  • Chautauqua Assembly
  • Miss DeFuniak Springs Pageant
  • Miss Walton County Pageant

Down Syndrome Association of Tallahassee

DSAT was created by Tallahassee parents in 2004 in an effort to provide support and education to families who had children with Down syndrome. The mission of DSAT is to provide education, support, and resources to individuals with Down syndrome, their families, professionals, and the community, while building public awareness and acceptance of the abilities of individuals with Down syndrome.

Over the last 13 years DSAT has grown to promote statewide public awareness of Down syndrome and to be a source of information and support to families in Florida’s Capital City, North Florida and South Georgia.  In the summer of 2017 DSAT officially expanded its service area to include the Northwest Florida Panhandle.   With this expansion came a new Buddy Walk.  In addition to hosting the Tallahassee Buddy Walk on October 28th, DSAT has partnered with the Anchor Club of Walton High to host the Anchored Down with Love Buddy Walk in Defuniak Springs on October 14th
